Abstract:

In the First World War, the Allied Navy, which began to strike on March 18, 1915, was defeated with the aim of crossing the Chanakkale Gulf and linked his hope to the ground wars. On April 25, 1915, with the expulsion movement to the Kumkale, Seddülbahir and Arıburnu regions, the most bloody days of the war occurred on the Çanakkale Front. In this movement and struggle, the Kumkale struggles hold an important place. The French entered this expulsion movement in order to help with the expulsion of Seddülbahir and to prevent the 15th Colord troops in the Turkish army from sending additional troops to the Gelibolu peninsula. Against this amphibic deployment operation launched by the French fleet on 25 April 1915, the Kumkale battles were carried out by the 15th Colordu troops and the defense of the Anatolian side was successfully completed. In this statement, in light of the documents contained in the archive of the General Forces Military History and Strategic Studies Department, the attempts of the French army to get to Anatolia in Çanakkale and the analysis of the defense plans of the Turkish army and the action plans related to the war, the importance of the Kumkale battles in the Çanakkale battles will be revealed.
