Abstract:

The aim of this study is examine the relationship between university students' leisure satisfaction and emotional intelligence levels according to some demographic variables. The research group consists of 579 (204 female and 375 male) volunteer students studying at the Faculty of Sport Sciences in Bartın University. Relational scanning model, one of the general scanning models, was used in the research. Personal information form, "Leisure Satisfaction Scale (LSS)" and "Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale (SEIS)" were used as data collection tools in the study. Frequency, percentage arithmetic mean, standard deviation, independent sample t-Test, single factor analysis of variance ANOVA and Pearson correlation analyzes were used of the data. SPSS 26.0 package program was used in the analysis of the data. According to the results, gender variable t-Test, a significant difference was found in the total mean scores of LSS and SEIS. According to the results of the department variable ANOVA test, no significant difference was found in the total mean scores and sub-dimensions of LSS and SEIS. According to the results of the correlation analysis of age and family income variables, no significant correlation was found in the total mean scores of LSS and SEIS. A moderate and positive significant relationship was found between LSS and SEIS. As a result, it can be said that the satisfaction of university students in leisure activities will increase their ability to understand, manage and direct their own or others' emotions, which is, the level of emotional intelligence.
