The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between the level of work stress and the perceived levels of freedom of civil servants in the work environment. The sample of the study consisted of 165 (105 women and 60 men) civil servants who worked in various public institutions in Bartin province in 2017-2018. Personal information form (age, gender, marital status, recreational activities), "Scale of Perceived Freedom in Free Time (SPFFT)" and "Business Stress Scale (BSS)" were used as data collection tools. In the analysis of the data, according to the demographic characteristics of the participants, t-Test was used to examine the differences between perceived freedom in free time and business stress levels, and Pearson Correlation analysis was used to examine the relationship between variables. According to the results of the t-test, there was no significant difference in the average score of SPFFT and BSS in the "gender" and "marital status" variables (p>0.05). In addition, as a result of the correlation test no significant correlation was found between the "age" variable and the average scores of the scales (p>0.05). No significant correlation was found between SPFFT and BSS total score average, but a negative and low level significant correlation was found between BSS and "knowledge and skills" sub-dimension scores. As a result of the research, it can be said that as the knowledge and skill levels of the participants about the active participation in recreational activities increase, the work stress will decrease.
