Abstract:

The aim of this study is to conduct an action research aimed at gaining and developing critical / listening monitoring skills in secondary school Turkish courses. The study was carried out in a one class at the 7th grade level of a secondary school in Talas district of Kayseri. The study group of the research was determined by purposeful sampling method. The class size of the application is 25 students, 15 of them are girls and 10 of them are boys. Critical theory, critical thinking, listening, critical listening and language teaching approaches constitute the theoretical background of the research and are the main fields of study in the preparation of the action plan. The research was carried out in a 12-week study schedule, 10 of which were application lessons and 2 were data collection processes. In the study, the process of action research was followed, in this sense, both qualitative and quantitative data were obtained. As a result of the action plan, a significant increase in students' critical listening / watching personal and social competence perceptions was detected. However, a significant decrease was observed in students' perceptions of critical listening / watching barriers. It was observed that the students focused on concepts such as criticism, persuasion, propaganda, and democratic attitude in the applied lessons and found these lessons unique.
