Abstract:

In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effects of Jigsaw I technique applied to seventh grade students' science course on domestic wastes, recycling and chemistry industry on communication skills of students. In this research, a quantitative study was conducted with two weeks of practice. The method used in the research is a semi-experimental pattern with pretest-posttest control groups. The research was carried out with seventh grade students in the second term of 2017-2018 academic year in a public secondary school in Viranşehir district of Şanlıurfa province. Jigsaw I technique in the experimental group and 5E teaching model in the control group were applied. The data of the study were collected with the Communication Skills Evaluation Scale (CSES). Dependent groups t test and independent groups t test were used in the analysis of the data. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the Jigsaw I technique was more effective in the communication skills of the students in comparison with the 5E learning model. In the light of the obtained results, some suggestions about future scientific research related to Jigsaw I were made that it can be conducted for a longer period of time in other subjects of Science course. It is thought that the research will guide new studies to be conducted.
