Abstract:

In the early 1990s, in the new political conditions that developed after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the United States turned into main power centre and began to pay special attention to the establishment of political and economic relations with the countries of the post-Soviet space that declared independence. In this regard, in 1992-2000, US-Azerbaijan economic relations began to develop in a different direction. Despite the fact that a number of agreements were signed in the economic sphere before 1993, bilateral economic relations of this period did not reach a high level of development. The signing of the Contract of the Century in 1994 marked the beginning of a new stage in relations between the United States and Azerbaijan in the field of economic and energy security. After that, agreements signed between the United States and Azerbaijan on the development of a number of oil fields led to positive dynamics in relations in the economic sphere.
