Abstract:

This study aims to determine the reputation of the teaching profession in the community in accordance with the opinions of teachers and identify the factors that affect the professional reputation. The work is performed according to the research patterns of the situation. The work group consists of nine teachers working in the state schools affiliated with the Ministry of Education. Participants are determined by taking into account different gender and mandate periods according to the maximum diversity sample method. In the study, a semi-configured conversation form was used as a data collection tool. The quality data obtained in the study was encoded using the NVivo 10 program, accessed to subcategories and topics based on codes. The study found that participants believed that the reputation of the teaching profession in Turkey was decreasing from day to day. According to the participants; in the reduction of the reputation of the teaching profession in Turkey; the Turkish National Education Ministers and senior ministry executive statements, the problems arising from the process of examination of the complaints made to BIMER/CIMER and Alo 147, the problem of teacher employment and unemployed teachers, the changing perception of value in society, the change of the powers and responsibilities of teachers in recent years, the low wages, the problems arising from teachers and negative media news are more than one factor effective.
