Abstract:

The novels of African-American writer Toni Morrison, who has a wide audience in Turkey and most of his books are given to Turkey, are focused on the world of African-Americans in the United States and contain elements related to the verbal tradition of African culture and this horse culture. The purpose of this study is to find out the role of translation of the forms of translation of folklore elements that call for the verbal tradition in African-American culture in Sula (1973) in the framework of the Afro-Centric Approach (Afrocentricity) presented by Molefi K. Asante. The first translation of the novel to Turkish, which is the subject of the study, came from the pen of the experienced translator Ülker İnce, who gave many important works to Turkish, and was published in 1994 by Can Publishing. The novel was reversed by Ince and published in 2017 by Sel Publishing. The citations from the source text and the responses of these citations in the two male texts are comparable in the context of the translator’s presence/visibility/voice.
