Abstract:

The aim of this research is to determine the level of the rights to life, development, participation and protection recognized to children in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in the Turkish lesson books, in preparatory questions, in classroom and non-class events, in evaluation questions and in visual texts. The research is in the document examination model. In this study, the quality research methods have been used by the content analysis method. The first remarkable conclusion of this study is that the books have more space for stories about children’s developmental and life rights, while less space for stories about participation and protection rights. Another important conclusion is that in the written texts of the Turkish curriculum books, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child gives more place to expressions concerning the right to life, the right to development, the right to protection and the right to participation recognized to children; in the Turkish curriculum books, the recommended inter-class and non-class activities, preparation questions, evaluation questions and visual texts are less place.
