Abstract:

The aim of this study is to develop a valid and reliable scale for measuring the servant leadership behaviors of school principals. The study group of the research consists of 372 teachers working in public primary schools in the Central Artuklu District of Mardin Province in the 2018-2019 academic year. The construct validity of the scale was examined by Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). As a result of Exploratory Factor Analysis, a structure consisting of 35 items and five factors (service concept, development, communication, honesty, management skills) was obtained. The total variance rate explained by the scale was determined to be 67.811 %. The factor load values of the items in the scale ranged between .367 and .833. It was also confirmed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) that the scale measures the five-factor structure. In order to determine the reliability of the scale, Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient and item total correlations were examined. Cronbach Alpha values are .892, .903, .901, .924, .873 for the factors and .971 for the entire scale, respectively. The item total correlation values in the factors have changed between .530 and .749. The results reveal that the scale is reliable on the basis of factors and as a whole. All validity and reliability analysis results show that Servant School Leadership Scale can be used as a valid and reliable measurement tool in the studies where teachers will be taken as a working group.
