Abstract:

The aim of the study is to examine the effect of career stress and professional attitude towards the teaching profession on the career commitment of pre-service teachers. The group research consists of 564 pre-service teachers taking formation education at Necmettin Erbakan University. In the study, the personal information form developed by the researchers, Career Stress Scale adapted into Turkish by Özden and Sertel-Berk, Career Commitment Scale adapted into Turkish by Korkmaz, Kırdök, Alkal, and Akça, and the Attitude Towards Teaching Profession Scale developed by Kahramanoğlu, Yokuş, Cücük, Vural and Şiraz were used. According to the findings of the study, there was a significant and positive relationship between career commitment and attitude toward teaching. On the other hand, there was a significant and negative relationship between career commitment and career stress. In addition, regression analysis revealed a significant regression model and explained 37% of the variance in the dependent variable. Accordingly, attitude towards the teaching profession predicts the dependent variable positively and significantly. In addition, the independent variable career stress predicts the dependent variable career commitment negatively and significantly. In line with these analyses, it can be said that the career stress of pre-service teachers has a significant negative effect on their career commitment, while their attitude towards the teaching profession has a significant positive effect.
