Abstract:

Aim of Study: The glass ceiling represents obstacles between women and senior management that do not allow them to progress in their careers regardless of their achievements and abilities. In the study, the perception of glass ceiling syndrome in women working in a private hospital was examined and evaluated. Materials and Methods: Quantitative research design and simple random sampling method were used in the study. A survey of 168 female employees working in a private hospital operating in Konya was conducted. The Cronbach Alpha value of the questionnaire used was 0.950. Findings: 63,7% of female workers participating in the survey think that more opportunities for promotion should be given to women, 46,4% of women have too much family responsibilities and 32,8% of them think that senior management is given to men more than women. 60.1% of the employees stated that their families directed their girls to the professions they thought were directed towards women. Discussion and Conclusion: According to the results of the research, women do not think that they have career obstacles towards themselves. In addition, employees do not see their family responsibilities as an obstacle to their upsurge and they think they will be successful in senior management. On the other hand, the health workers who participated in the research think that more opportunities for promotion should be given to women and that senior executives are given to men rather than women.
