Fen Lisesi Öğrencilerinin Mühendislik Tasarım Süreçlerinin İncelenmesi

Fen liseleri; kuruluş amaçları ve bu okullarda öğrenim gören öğrencilerin akademik başarıları dikkate alındığında, mühendislik tasarım süreçlerini benimsemiş nitelikli bireyler yetiştirilmesi için lokomotif kurum olabilir. Bu nedenle fen lisesi öğrencilerinin mühendislik tasarım süreçlerini gerçekleştirme düzeylerinin belirlenmesi gerekmektedir. Bu araştırmada, fen lisesinde öğrenim gören dokuzuncu sınıf öğrencilerinin mühendislik tasarım süreçlerini gerçekleştirme düzeylerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca araştırmada fen lisesinde öğrenim gören dokuzuncu sınıf öğrencileri mühendislik tasarım süreçlerini nasıl gerçekleştirdiklerinin belirlenmesi hedeflenmiştir. Durum çalışmasının kullanıldığı araştırma, 2019-2020 yılında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu, Türkiye’deki bir fen lisesinin dokuzuncu sınıfında öğrenim gören 27 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Verilerin toplanmasında, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen STEM entegrasyon temelli etkinlik kitapçıkları, mühendislik tasarım süreci değerlendirme rubliği ve mühendislik tasarım sürecine yönelik öğrenci formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, fen lisesinde öğrenim gören dokuzuncu sınıf öğrencilerin problemin belirlenmesi, çözüm önerilerinin geliştirilmesi ve disiplinlerarası bilgilerin entegrasyonu konularında hedeflenen düzeyde oldukları, ancak tasarım süreci konusunda hedeflenen düzeye ulaşamadıkları belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin mühendislik tasarım süreçlerini farklı stratejiler, kriterler ve karar verme mekanizmaları kullanarak gerçekleştirdikleri tespit edilmiştir.

Abstract:

High Schools of Science, taking into account the organizational objectives and academic achievements of students studying in these schools, can be a locomotive institution to train qualified individuals who have adopted engineering design processes. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the levels of the high school students realizing engineering design processes. This study aims to determine the levels of the students of the ninth class who study at the high school of science realizing engineering design processes. The research also aimed at determining how ninth-class students studying at the high school of sciences perform engineering design processes. The study used by the case study was conducted in 2019-2020. The research work group consists of 27 students studying in the ninth class of a high school in Turkey. In data collection, STEM integration-based activity libraries developed by researchers, engineering design process evaluation rubles and engineering design process student forms have been used. The research finds that ninth-class students studying at the high school of sciences are at the targeted level in the issues of problem determination, development of solutions proposals and interdisciplinary knowledge integration, but cannot reach the targeted level in the design process. It has also been identified that students carry out engineering design processes using different strategies, criteria and decision-making mechanisms.

Science high schools can be the locomotive institution for raising qualified individuals who have adopted the engineering design processes, considering the purpose of their establishment and the academic success of the students studying in these schools. For this reason, it is necessary to determine the level of realization of engineering design processes of science high school students. In this study, it was aimed to determine the level of engineering design processes of ninth grade students studying in Science High School. In addition, the study aimed to determine how ninth-grade students studying in science high school perform engineering design processes. The research using the status study was carried out in 2019-2020. The research working group consists of 27 students studying in the ninth grade of a science high school in Turkey. STEM integration-based activity booklets developed by the researchers, engineering design process evaluation and student form for the engineering design process were used in the collection of the data. As a result of the research, it was determined that ninth grade students studying in Science High School were at the target level in identifying the problem, developing solution proposals and integrating interdisciplinary information, but did not reach the target level in the design process. In addition, it has been found that students perform engineering design processes using different strategies, criteria and decision-making mechanisms.
