Abstract:

Infectious diseases that are widely seen during war and migration periods have also manifested themselves in the Turkish-Greek Population Exchange. A large staff agency, which is named Mubadele, Immar and İskân Vekâlieti, was established to carry out the work of the exchange, and the newly established Turkish Republic's health infrastructure was insufficient due to the assistance of the Reday in health affairs. The work program between Mumbai, Immar and Iskân Vekâli and the Red and the health controls of the Mumbai were largely transferred to the Red. The medical delegations to carry out medical checks of the exchangers in the landscapes in Greece and in the landscapes in Turkey have been commissioned, enough doctors, nurses and hospitals and dispensors have been opened. One of the infectious diseases seen among the exchanges was the typhus disease where a protective vaccine and an effective drug used for treatment was not yet found. Since it is known that the Tifus disease is transmitted through bites, personal cleansing and bit controls of the exchanges have been highly observed. Before they were taken to the scan areas, the shields held in the quarantine points in various areas were provided to be washed in the hammas here, the items were disinfected by passing through the ethuve machine. Despite all the measures taken, the typhous disease has not been prevented, especially in the Central Black Sea and Inner Anatolian regions. In this study, the cases of typhus seen in the exchange years have been identified using the documents of the Turkish Red Society Archive and the Republic Archive of the President of the State Archive, and the results have been evaluated by examining the measures taken to prevent the disease from becoming an epidemic that affects the whole country.
