Abstract:

This study aims to develop a list of qualifications for academics working in the field of social sciences that need to have. In accordance with this goal, between 2001 and 2015 interviews with 30 academics who received the TÜBA and TÜBİTAK awards were made and the data obtained was evaluated by content analysis and 36 qualifications were identified. These competencies are classified in four competence groups: scientific, professional, personal and relative competencies. Under the category of scientific competencies, the emphasis has been given to the ability to determine the thinking skills, scientific competencies and original research questions. Under the category of professional skills; research and learning, presentation and writing skills are often emphasized. The skills referred to within the scope of personal skills are planned and disciplined with patience and determination. In the context of relationship competencies, the ability to interact between cultures and the ability to develop close relationships with team members was highlighted.
