Abstract:

Formerly, the kids used to begin primary school when they turn 72 months. However, the legislation was changed and promulgated on July 21, 2012 and numbered 28263. Students between the ages 60 months and 66 months began to get primary education via the consent of their parents along with the change made in the regulations of primary education institutions in the 2012-2013 Academic year. It is through this initiation that discussions concerning the inadequacy of the basic skills and learning disabilities have been made. Several reports were published. There were criticism from syndicates and charities, though all those criticism were before the process started. The present study, which was conducted in a qualitative way, aimed to evaluate primary school students’ initial reading and writing processes during their 60-66 months of age according to teachers’ views. The process between the students’ starting primary school and finishing the first year was tried to be evaluated according to the activities and their development. The sample of the study was made up of 26 classroom teachers working in Usak in 2012-2013 Academic year. It was revealed in the study that although students between the ages 60 months and 66 months experienced problems in their personal such as adaptation to the school, toilet training, self dressing and self eating self-care skills at the beginning of the semester, these students did not encounter these problems at the end of the semester. Likewise, it was found that students experienced problems in their writing and blackboard use skills when they first started the primary school. It was unearthed in the study that students overcame the problem of reading and writing at the end of 2012-2013 Academic year.
