The main basis of this study is that how the popular meaning of “balbal” has been formed and the word sound changes in diachronie. We suggest a sense of new reading and interpreting in terms of etymology for the word “balbal” which we peruse sound changes in diachronie. We state that it is not a simple word but a formation of reduplication and it has passed from Chuvash dialect to general Turkish without sound change. Consequently, we claim that the word balbal can be read and interpreted in the form of “başbaş” / “baş-baş” in general Turkish.
