The main basis of this study is that how the popular meaning of "balbal" has been formed and the word sound changes in diachronie. We suggest a sense of new reading and interpreting in terms of etymology for the word "balbal" which we peruse sound changes in diachronie. We state that it is not a simple word but a formation of reduplication and it has passed from Chuvash dialect to general Turkish without sound change. Consequently, we claim that the word balbal can be read and interpreted in the form of "head-head" / "head-head" in general Turkish. In this way, we believe that the blur in the meaning of the word "balbal" will be disappeared. The interpretation of the word "head" in general Turkish is a step in approaching the real meaning of the historical word. We hope that the word we have studied in terms of ethymology will also be useful in archaeology and history studies.
