Abstract:

The aim of the study is to develop a high level of validity and reliability measurement tool in order to determine the hopes and goals of high school students towards STEM education. The research is the methodological validity and reliability study in which the scale called Hope and Goals to STEM Training is adapted to the Turkish, developed by Douglas and Strobel and consisting of 19 articles. The study included a total of 873 students studying in the 5-8 classes of 12 different secondary schools. To test the factor structure of the measurement tool and the conformity of this structure, the Opening Factor Analysis (AFA) and the Verifying Factor Analysis (DFA) were performed. Both AFA and DFA results show that the adjusted scale can be based on four factors. These results have been tested using different methods. Also, according to the DFA analysis, conformity indices show that the measurement tool confirms the factors. The reliability ratio of data obtained from two different sampling groups has been determined to be acceptable. The subfactors of the scale are in the form of "the hope of learning at school and the hope of work satisfaction", "the attitude towards the mind", "the attitude towards engineering" and "the attitude towards mathematics". The results of this study show that the scale is appropriate in terms of reliability and validity and can be used especially at high school level.
