Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to present the date, topics of the dissertations, university the study was conducted in, the level of graduate education (MA, PhD), the study group and the methodology of the dissertations (masters and PhD). In the literature, there are two studies (Şahin, Calp, Bulut, Kuşdemir, 2013; Küçükoğlu ve Ozan, 2013), one MA thesis (Bağcı, 2012), and one oral presentation (Karadağ, 2009) that analyze the same subject. The distinctive feature of this study is that it handles the masters and PhD dissertations between 2011 and 2015. Şahin, Calp, Bulut and Kuşdemir (2013) analyzed the dissertations between 2005 and 2010 while Küçükoğlu and Ozan (2013) and Bağcı (2012) analyzed the dissertations from 2008 to 2012 and those from 1995 to 2011 respectively. The study employs the methodological evaluation method. For this study, 373 thesis were analyzed and they were classified according to the researchers’ gender, the frequency of the level of the dissertations (MA, PhD.), university and the frequency of the dissertations written at that university, the topics of the dissertations, the study group (study group and sample etc.) and the methodology. Based on the data gathered, graphs and frequency charts were formed. As a result of the study, the findings of the study show that women wrote more dissertations when compared with those written by men, that dissertations completed in 40 different universities were written concerning the field of Primary School Teaching between 2011 and 2015, that far more dissertations were written on the field of Primary School Teaching at Atatürk, Gazi, Marmara and Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart universities in comparison with those written at other universities, that the topics of the dissertations were not directly related to the field of Primary School Teaching, that the dissertations mostly revealed the current situation and that the dissertations mainly dealt with teachers and students.
