Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to study the perceptions of immigrant teachers candidates about the education they have received in the education faculty and the reasons for their preference for the education faculty. The participants of the study, which adopted the model of the quality research, formed 20 migrant teachers candidates who studied at the educational faculty of a state university in Turkey in the 2020-2021 academic year. The data of the research was collected through a focus group interview and analyzed through the thematic analysis technique. The research finds that migrants teaching candidates prefer educational faculty for reasons such as love the teaching profession, feeling social responsibility and thinking that teaching is a suitable profession for themselves. At the same time, the candidates are aware that in the current circumstances it is difficult to take part in the public schools in Turkey, but they believe that the special courses (pre-school, primary, secondary and high school), which are opened to the education of migrant students in different stages, will serve as teachers in tents, associations, private schools, some public institutions and civil society organizations. Immigrant teachers candidates see the education they receive in the faculty as sufficient, they think that this education has improved themselves personally and professionally. Immigrant teachers candidates at the educational faculty have problems with topics such as language skills and socialization and have difficulties such as being exposed to some racist speech, but they have easily overcome these difficulties with the positive attitudes of the academics at the educational faculty and the support of their classmates.
