Abstract:

The condition of women interfering negatively with each other's careers is referred to as Queen Bee Syndrome. The aim of this study is to examine the views of female teachers working in private schools about queen bee syndrome. In this study, the opinions of 45 female teachers working in private schools in Istanbul about QBS were taken. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the "convenience sampling" method was preferred. The phenomenology model, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the study. The data obtained as a result of the research were evaluated by content analysis. As a result of the data analysis, a total of 6 sub-themes were clustered under 4 main themes. Under the main theme of the characteristics of managers, there is a sub-theme of characteristics of female managers and characteristics of male managers. Destructive traits are a sub-theme under the main theme of queen bee traits. Under the main theme of conflict results with the queen bee is the sub-theme of mutual loss. Under the theme of management features predominantly women, there are sub-themes of disabling environment and supportive environment. In this study female teachers who met queen bee syndrome have negative experiences, and female teachers mostly attributed negative behaviors and characteristics to female principals. Therefore, it is important that queen bee syndrome situations that cause both parties to lose are not experienced in our schools.
