Abstract:

This study aimed to reveal the experiences of primary school teachers in teaching mathematics with live lessons during the Covid-Pandemic isolation period. For this purpose, the phenomenology design of the qualitative research approach was used in this study. A total of 20 primary school teachers, who were selected via convenient sampling method, participated in the current study. The data were collected through face-to-face interviews with primary school teachers using semi-structured interview questions developed by the researchers. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and shown in tables. At the end of the research, it has been revealed that primary school teachers have mostly had difficulties in teaching mathematics. It was determined that primary school teachers mostly used showing and lecture method while teaching mathematics online, used printed materials, asked questions to all of the students and gave them chance to answer to participate them actively and evaluated them by giving homework and getting feedback through their social media accounts. It has been revealed that primary school teachers have experienced some problems in teaching mathematics with distance learning such as students’ low interest, lack of attention and motivation deficits. It was revealed that primary school teachers preferred face-to-face education while teaching mathematics because of the individual differences and instant feedback opportunities. Primary school teachers mostly suggested to the families that they should provide academic support to their children in teaching mathematics via distance learning.
