İçinde bulunduğumuz 21. Yüzyılda yaşanan baş döndürücü çeşitli toplumsal, teknolojik, bilimsel vb. gelişmeler toplumları temelinden etkilemiş, birçok toplumsal kurumun temelinden sarsıldığı bu dönemde değerler eğitimi belki de hiçbir dönemde olmadığı kadar önem kazanmıştır. Değerler eğitimine yaşam boyu süren bir faaliyet olarak toplum tarafından ihtiyaç duyulması değerler eğitiminin yaşam boyu eğitim temelinde ele alınmasını gerekli kılmıştır. Günümüzde okullarda değerler eğitimi verilmesine yönelik çok sayıda akademik çalışma bulunmakla beraber değerler eğitimi bağlamında camilerin ve hutbelerin işlevleri konusunda yapılmış çok fazla akademik çalışmaya rastlanmamıştır. Bu bağlamda camilerde ve camilerin değerler eğitimini sunmada birincil araçlarından olan hutbelerde değerler eğitiminin bir yaşam boyu eğitim faaliyeti olarak sunulmasının çeşitli boyutlarıyla incelenmesi bu çalışmanın amacını oluşturmuştur. Literatür taramasına dayalı olarak yapılan bu derleme çalışmasında değerler eğitimi ve yaşam boyu eğitim kavramsal bağlamda ele alınmış, Türkiye’de değerler eğitimi alanında yapılan çalışmalar sunulmuş, değerler eğitiminin sunulmasında camiler ve hutbelerin oynadığı roller tartışılmıştır. Sonuç olarak değerler eğitiminin aile hayatı ve okulla sınırlı olmadığı, camiler ve hutbelerin yediden yetmişe herkese hitap etmesi bağlamında değerler eğitiminin yaşam boyu sunumunda işlevsel olduğu görülmüştür.
