Abstract:

In this study, the social consequences of modernity are discussed from a sociological perspective on the axis of community-society. When we look at the socio-cultural agenda of Turkish society, it is not possible to say that the dimension of the concept of community in the media is reflected equally in academic studies. In this sense, community should be brought to the agenda as a sociological concept and its theoretical framework should be reconsidered and examined. Because the community has gained a different dimension depending on various areas of the new social formation of the modern period. Whereas the traditional community includes all human relations, with modernity mutual relations are limited; It is possible to see that ideological approaches have replaced collective action around the same purpose/target. All these developments contain a number of distinctive elements that refer to different ways of perceiving community in the late modern period. This situation shows that we are faced with a new view of the community. In this sense, due to the imposition of modernity, this new view of community is essentially the same as the traditional community; They present some differences in terms of form, content and function.
