Özet Birinci Dünya Savaşı'nda Doğu Karadeniz Bölgesini işgal etmeye çalışan Ruslara karşı, tüm Doğu Karadeniz'de olduğu gibi Trabzon ve civarında da etkili bir savunma yapılmıştır. Doğu Karadeniz'de ve Trabzon'da Ruslara karşı gösterilen savunma, nizami birliklerin Kafkas Cephesi'nde görev almaları nedeniyle sivil ve gönüllü kuvvetlerden de istifade edilerek gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sivil kuvvetlerin sevk ve idare edilmesi ise çoğu yerde subaylar tarafından bir Teşkilat-ı Mahsusa yapılanması şeklinde sağlanmıştır. Hem sahil kesiminden hem Doğu Anadolu istikametinden ve hem de deniz kısmından donanma desteğinde ve kalabalık kuvvetlerle Trabzon üzerine ilerlemiş Rus kuvvetlerine yönelik Trabzon'un doğusunda Of, Sürmene, Araklı ve en son Yanboludere vadilerinde sivillerin de yoğun katılımıyla etkili bir savunma yapılmış, bu savunmalarla Rus ordusunun hızı kesilmiş hatta işgalin kolay olmayacağı ve işgal sonrası bölgede oluşacak Rus hakimiyetinin ise hiç rahat geçmeyeceği gösterilmiştir. Rus işgaliyle batı kesimlerine ve iç kısımlara çekilen Türk nizami ve sivil kuvvetleri, Trabzon'un batısındaki Akçaabat, Vakfıkebir ve Tonya kesimlerinde de Ruslara karşı Teşkilat-ı Mahsusa yapılanmasıyla çok etkili bir çete savaşı yürütmüşler, yöredeki Türk nizami kuvvetlerinin batıya doğru çekilişine ve sivillerin şehri boşaltarak batı bölgelerine mümkün olan güven içerisinde ilerlemelerine zaman ve zemin oluşturmuşlardır. Bölgenin dinamik her sivil grubu, çete savunmasında yer almıştır. Aynı sivil kuvvetler, işgalden sonra Trabzon'da ortaya çıkan azınlık çetelerine karşı İslam ahalinin ve bölgenin güvenliğini de sağlamışlardır.
In the First World War, an effective defense was made against the Russians trying to occupy the Eastern Black Sea area, as in the entire Eastern Black Sea, as in Trabzon and its surroundings. The defence against the Russians in the Eastern Black Sea and in Trabzon was carried out by the use of civilian and volunteer forces as a result of the Nazi troops taking part in the Kafkas Front. The shipping and management of civil forces in most places is provided by the officers in the form of an Organization in Mahsusa. From both the coastal part and from the eastern Anadolu and the sea part, in the support of the naval and the Russian forces advanced on Trabzon with crowded forces, an effective defense was made in the east of Trabzon with the intense involvement of civilians in the valley of Of, Sürmene, Araklı and the latter Yanboludere, with these defences the speed of the Russian army was cut down and the occupation would not be easy and the Russian domination in the after-occupation region would not be comfortable. The Turkish Nazi and Civil Forces, with the Russian occupation to the western parts and inside parts, in the western parts of Trabzon, in the Akçaabat, Foundation and Tonya, also conducted a very effective gang struggle with the formation of the Organization-i Mahsusa against the Russians, created time and ground for the retreat of the Turkish Nazi Forces in the area to the west and the civilians to move forward in the confidence possible to their western parts by emptying the city. Every dynamic civilian group in the area was involved in the gang defense. The same civilian forces have also secured the security of the Islamic power and the region against the minority gangs that emerged in Trabzon after the occupation.
