Abstract:

The early childhood period, called 0-8 years of age, is the period in which development is the fastest and the most exposed to the impact of the environment. In this period, it is noted that children’s brain develops rapidly and early experiences affect their brain structure and their ability to regulate information. In this period, it occurs when children begin to use countless concepts related to mathematics along with many concepts and skills. The mathematical skills acquired in the early years form the basis of more complex mathematical knowledge to be acquired in school years by supporting the skills of children to solve problems, analyze, and create hypotheses, which are the basis of the children’s scientific thinking skills. In addition, children’s early math skills are directly related to future academic success, high school graduation with higher scores, higher job finding rates, and professional success. Therefore, in support of early mathematical skills, parents and educators have great tasks. From this point on, in the study with motion, recommendations were presented to parents and educators working in the field by discussing the characteristics of early mathematical skills in the pre-school period and the basic skills that influence these skills.
