Abstract:

The new communication mechanisms that emerged with the internet have begun to show more and more interest over the day. Considering that countless amounts and all kinds of information and visuals are shared on social media every day, it is not difficult to predict what kind of negative use of these mechanisms can lead to. In this context, it is possible to talk about the many harmful effects of spending excessive time on social media platforms. One of them, and one of them, is loneliness. The lonely individual remains sensitive to events that develop in the remote and close surroundings, distances from people, and can even be isolated from society by breaking their ties with the family, relatives and friends around. The aim of this study is to find out whether children in adolescence have a link between social media usage habits and loneliness. In the framework of the study, a survey on the relevant age group was conducted using the UCLA loneliness scale, based on the face-to-face conversation technique. According to some findings from the study participants, 94.5% of adolescent children use a social media platform regularly daily. 53.1 percent of the participants said they were not an external person, 48.4 percent said their interests and ideas were not shared by those around them, 48.3 percent said no one really knew themselves well, and 46.7 percent said they felt like they were alone.
