Abstract:

The research aimed to determine the communication skills of pre-service teachers. Also communication skills of the pre-sevice teachers in terms of some factors such as gender, grade and department at which they have been educated are tried to be examined. 458 pre-service teachers, who have studied at Department of Fine Arts Education (Department of Music Teacher Education and Department of Art and Crafts Teacher Education), Department of Turkish Language Teaching and Department of Science Teaching at the Faculty of Education of a university in the Aegean Region participated in the research. “Communication Skills Scale” developed by Owen Korkut and Bugay (2014) was used as a means of data collection in the research. For the data analysis, descriptive statistical methods were used. The gathered data showed a significant difference in favour of female pre-service teachers when the participants’ communication skills were regarded in terms of gender factor; a significant difference could not be found in terms of grade factor. When communication skills were examined according to the department factor, Department of Music Teacher Education has been found as the one with the highest communication skills and Department of Art and Crafts Teacher Education has been found as the one with the lowest communication skills
