Abstract:

In this study, the aim of the Turkish teacher candidates is to study the level of reading culture attitude and these levels in terms of various variables. The work group of the research carried out with the visual scan model was determined by simple non-selective sampling from unselective sampling methods. Participants; in the 2018-2019 academic year, the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University School of Education is composed of a total of 223 teachers candidates studying in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes in the Turkish Teaching Department. The data collected through the Reading Culture Scale has been studied by gender, class level, parental education level, love reading, the number of pages read per week and the number of books read in the year. According to the results of the study, the reading culture of the Turkish teacher candidates is above the average level of attitude. From the point of view of gender, reading culture attitudes in favor of female teachers candidates and from the point of view of class level in favor of students in the 4th grade show manidar differences. Father and mother, according to the level of education, have similar characteristics. According to the number of books read annually and the number of pages read weekly, the attitude towards the reading culture increases due to the number of pages read weekly.
