Abstract:

Urban transformation can be referred to as the process of building new, contemporary and living places instead of destroying the structures that have become old, destroyed, destroyed and unbehaviable over time. Although Turkey has entered the rapid urbanization process since the 1950s, Diyarbakır has entered the rapid urbanization process since the 1980s. With the rapid urbanization process, poor and low-income citizens from the rural sector have tried to solve the housing problem by making cities. As a result of these developments, the walls were shortly filled with unplanned, unregulated, evacuated structures and cracks. This is where urban transformation practices have become a necessity in order to ensure that the historical and cultural works that have been damaged and unused in the shore and the evacuated structures and gecondes have become a necessity in order to ensure that they are actually suitable by repairing them. In this study, the historic development of urban transformation practices in the world and in Turkey, the objectives and methods of urban transformation, is intended to show an integrated approach to urban transformation projects. In this context, Diyarbakır Sur District urban transformation practices, the difficulties encountered in the process of implementation of this project and the latest situation in the urban transformation practices of the Sur District are described.

Although Turkey entered into a rapidurbanization process beginning in 1950s, Diyarbakır entered into that processonly in 1980s. With the start of the rapidurbanization process, poorand low-income families tried to solve their accommodation problem by buildings hacks. As a result of these developments, the are awithin the city walls was filled in a short time with shantyand illegal building sandshacks. Thus, urban transformation practices have become a necessity in orderto restore the historical and cultural Works that have decayedand become unusableand topreventthe illegal buildings and shacks in the walled city area. Inthepresentstudy, it has been aimed to explain the historical development of urban transformation practices in the worldand in Turkey, and to demonstrate a holistic approachto urban transformation projects. The presentstudy has addressed the subject of urban transformation, the development of urban transformation in the worldand in Turkey, the objectives and methods of urban transformation, the urban transformation practices in the district of Sur in Diyarbakır, the difficulties encounteredduring the process of the implementation of that Project and thecurrentstatus of the urban transformation in the district of Sur
