Abstract:

In this research, it is aimed to analyze the speaking self-efficacy and communication skills of prospective Turkish teachers in terms of various variables and to determine the relationship between these two skills. The study group of the research was determined by simple random sampling and consisted of 209 prospective teachers who were studying at Turkish Language Teaching Department in Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University. “Speaking Self-Efficacy Scale” developed by Katrancı and Melanlıoğlu (2013) and “Communication Skills Scale” developed by Owen and Bugay (2014) were used for collecting data in the study conducted with the relational screening model. In the analysis of the data, t-test and one-way analysis of variance (One Way Anova) were used for independent groups. According to the results of the research, it was found that the speaking self-efficacy of the prospective Turkish teachers did not significantly show any difference in terms of gender and department variables, but their communication skills showed significant difference in favor of female candidates in terms of gender variable, and that they had similar characteristics in terms of department variable. It has been determined that there was a positive relationship between speaking self-efficacy skills and communication skills of the prospective Turkish teachers.
