Abstract:

Determining the frequency of disruptive student behaviors that prevent to reach learning outcomes and suggesting solutions to eliminate them is crucial to improve learning quality and efficiency. When the literature is examined, it is seen that the studies related with the disruptive behaviors are generally conducted towards primary and high school level and the studies at the higher education level are quite limited. In this research, it is aimed to determine the frequency and the degree of disturbance level of the disruptive behaviors encountered in the class during the teaching and learning process by university lecturers. It is thought that with this perspective it will contribute to the literature.Descriptive survey model was used in the study. The data were collected from a total of 122 lecturers who work at Düzce University during the academic year of 2016-2017. According to the findings of the research; Among the most common disruptive behaviors faced by the instructors can be listed as follows; using mobile phone or tablet to enter the internet for extracurricular activities, messaging with mobile phone, entering and leaving the class without permission, not giving enough attention to the lesson, not bringing homework on time, plagiarism in projects and research, coming to the class without preparation. As the disruptive behaviors which disturb the lecturers most can be listed as follows; talking with mobile phone during class, using mobile phones or tablets to connect internet for extracurricular activities, not paying enough attention to the lesson, chewing gum in a distracting manner, to be sarcastic and sardonic about the opinions of classmates, to make political, religious, etc. propaganda
