Abstract:

The purpose of the study is to present ninth (9th) grade students’ ideas about the exams of passing from primary education to secondary education. Descriptive survey model is used within the study. The population of the study is formed by 2715 ninth (9th) grade students those received their education in state schools, during the period of 2015-2016 academic years, in Ereğli district of Zonguldak. The sample is formed by 1022 students which are chosen with the method of disproportionate element method. A questionnaire, which is prepared by the researcher, is used as the data collection tool. The coverage validity of the questionnaire used as data collection tool was 0.77. During the analyzation process, packaged software SPSS (Statistical Package of the Social Sciences) is used and Chi-Square test analysis is done. According to the obtained results, it is confirmed that; school syllabus and exam questions are coherent, make-up exams reduce stress level, common school exams are as important as the exams of passing from primary education to secondary education, the process of passing from primary education to secondary education exams separate the successful students from unsuccessful students, open-ended questions and mixed-type questions are unwanted. It is also confirmed that, there is statistically significant difference for some of the subjects, in terms of gender and school type. Girls have reached the conclusion that their TEOG exam questions are more compatible with the school curriculum. Anatolian high school students think that exam questions comply with the school curriculum much more than other high school types. Science High school students have reached high school students who do not want open-ended questions the most. It was concluded that the students of Fine Arts High School were the only high school type that required open-ended questions.
