Yurtta Veya Ailesinin Yanında Kalan Öğrencilerin Sosyal Destek Düzeyleri ve Stresle Başa Çıkma Stillerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract:

Bu araştırmada, lise öğrencilerinin algılanan sosyal destek düzeyleri ve stresle başa çıkma stillerinin öğrencilerin yurtta veya ailesinin yanında kalma durumlarına ve cinsiyetlerine göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı incelenmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin sosyal destek düzeyleri ve stresle başa çıkma tarzları arasındaki ilişki araştırılmıştır. Bu araştırma, nedensel karşılaştırmalı ve ilişkisel araştırma desenlerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu, 2013-2014 eğitim-öğretim yılında, farklı türdeki liselerin 9., 10., 11. ve 12. sınıflarında ve çeşitli bölümlerinde öğrenim gören 666 öğrenci oluşturmuştur. Öğrencilerin aile, arkadaş ve öğretmenlerinden algıladıkları sosyal desteği ölçmek amacıyla Algılanan Sosyal Destek Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Öğrencilerin stresle başa çıkma stilleri ise, Stresle Başa Çıkma Tarzları Ölçeği ile tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmada elde edilen bulgulara göre, ailesi yanında kalan lise öğrencilerinin aileden algılanan ve toplam algılanan sosyal destek puanları, yurtta kalan lise öğrencilerinin aileden algılanan ve toplam algılanan sosyal destek puanlarından yüksek bulunmuştur. Ayrıca öğrencilerin algılanan sosyal destek puanı ile stresle başa çıkma tarzları arasındaki ilişkinin çeşitlilik gösterdiği gözlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin genel algılanan sosyal destek düzeyi arttıkça, pasif başa çıkma tarzlarından olan çaresiz stresle başa çıkma tarzlarını kullanması artmakta, aktif başa çıkma tarzlarından olan kendine güvenen yaklaşım ve iyimser yaklaşımı kullanması ise azalmaktadır.

Introduction and the Purpose of the Study In this research, it was aimed to investigate perceived social support and stress coping strategies of high school students staying at home with their parents or in dormitory. Besides, it was aimed to examine the difference in students’ level of perceived social support and stress coping strategies by their gender. Following research questions guided the current study: Does perceived social support level of high school students staying in the dormitory differ from those staying at home with their families? Do strategies of coping with stress of high school students staying in the dormitory differ from those staying at home with their families? What is the relationship between perceived social support levels and the stress coping strategies of high school students? Theoretical Framework In adolescence, academic and school related concerns increase, concerns about future increase, and important decisions should be made; therefore, stress is one of the main issues for adolescents in this developmental stage (Tan, 2006). Some students should stay in dormitories during their education. Those students may be under much more stress than their peers staying at home with their families (Köse, 2009).
