Abstract:

The aim of this research is to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that can determine the beliefs of self-sufficiency towards learning a foreign language. The study was conducted with 466 students studying in a university’s English, German, French and Arabic teaching departments. The opinion of experts in the field has been applied to ensure the scope of the scale is valid and suitable in terms of language and narrative. For the structural validity of the measurement, the opening factor analysis (AFA) and the verifying factor analysis (DFA) have been applied. The Kaiser-Meyer Olkin (KMO) value was calculated as 0.972 and the Bartlett test was 11833,239 and the data were found to be appropriate for AFA. The analysis found that the scale consists of 25 substances and has a three-dimensional structure that describes 52.8% of the total variance. To verify the factor structure of the measurement, the DFA was made and the conformity well-being values were calculated as 2 /df = 3,903, GFI = 0,841, TLI = 0,926, CFI = 0,934, RMSEA = 0,079 and SRMR = 0,0370. The Cronbach's alpha reliability degree number calculated for reliability assessments of the scale was 0.977 and the Test-up and Test reliability ratio (Pearson correlation) was found as "914" for the underdimensions of understanding, "896" for the subdimensions of written and verbal expression and "935" for the underdimensions of reading and understanding. These values show that this scale is a valid and reliable scale. Thus, research on different groups can be carried out at this scale, where the determination of the belief of self-sufficiency for the learning of a particular language and the degree of education are not limited.
