Abstract:

The concept of “language planning” was firstly emerged to solve problems which were observed in a nation’s language usage. In course of time, the language and identity studies of minorities, immigrants, refugees, etc. in a country, which were done for various purposes, were also considered under the studies of language planning. As an immigrant country Germany has changed its studies about Turkish people and Turkish language at the beginning of the 2000s. The expression “The best integration is assimilation” of the Interior Minister, Otto Georg Schily, of that period was the sign of the planned studies and/or the summary of plans which were done. Firstly, status and legal rights of nations other than German were separated. At the same time, educational opportunities to them were formed. Turkish language lessons have been taken out from being must courses and Turkish language lessons started to be made in combined classes or central schools due to economic reasons. In this paper, research on language planning studies for Turkish language in Germany and their observed results in the 3rd generation is done. Furthermore, the point level has been determined according to the Language Vitality and Endangerment report which was published in 2003 by UNESCO.
