Abstract:

From the past to today, Amassia is a city that connects Anatolia from east to west, from north to sun, located in the center of trade, migration and war routes, with a geopolitically and strategically important position. Kirazlıdere Mahallesi is one of the settlements established in the north of the city centre of Amasia. The city was home to various civilizations, starting with the Hittites, and was also used as the center of the bishops during the Byzantine period. In the city centre, in the rescue excavations carried out in various dates under the presidency of the Amasya Museum Directorate; many examples of tombs of the Roman and Byzantine Period have been revealed in the districts of Damascus, Ihsaniye, Kurşunlu, Dere and Kirazlıdere (Ozdemir and Doğanbaş, 2011). The necropol area of the Kirazlıdere, dated with the early Byzantine period (MS 330-726) consists of a total of 22 tombs covered with flat-covered stones in a straight-covered form. These tombs, located in the Necropolis area of the Cyrus, belong to the first Christians who lived during the time of the Eastern Roman Empire (Bizans), which ruled in Amassia from the 5th century. The 2014 Kirazlıdere Mahallesi is the subject of the work of the tombs, skeletons and special items of these skeletons discovered as a result of the rescue excavation in the necropolis area.
