Abstract:

Dede Korkut stories are about the disputes between Oghuz tribes and their enemies as well as the disputes among the tribe members In these disputes the sons of the tribe leaders who are 15 or 16 years old have important roles In the stories the leaders of the Oghuz tribes generally have only one son In 12 Dede Korkut stories we can witness different adventures of these sons who are in their teenage years When they are 15 or 16 they are expected to show an indication of bravery This bravery is described around the theme of captivity The son saves his father or elder brother from captivity or faces death to save the honor of his mother when he is captivated In the stories there are different situations in which the son acts bravely When taking his name or his bride or taking a revenge etc In this study the characteristics and the roles of the only sons of Oghuz leaders in Dede Korkut stories are examined in detail Key words: Dede Korkut stories single son bravery captivity
