Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to identify the concepts of the sport stakeholders (trainer, athlete, faculty, manager and student) related to the expression of "fairplay" through metaphors. The participants are 402 people. For data to be collected, each participant is like "Fairplay ___________, because the information form containing the phrase _________" was given and asked them to fill the spots by writing the first metafor that came to their mind. In this study, the karma research method was used. Qualitative data is analyzed using content analysis, and quantitative data is presented using visual statistics. According to the findings obtained, the participants produced 23 current metaphors. These metaphors are gathered in three different conceptual categories in terms of common characteristics. These are, respectively, the categories "fairplay as a value", "fairplay as a social interaction" and "fairplay as a right". According to the results of the analysis, fairplay expression and the result result that participants generate concepts that may mostly be included in the values system. Furthermore, the fairplay expression has been determined to be perceived and understood differently according to the fields and gender. It can be said that metaphors are an effective tool to understand the fairplay concept.
