Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to find out the level of 4th and 5th grades students' attitudes towards Social Studies. The sample group of the study is randomly chosen from Districts of Kadıköy, Şişli, Eminönü and Küçükçekmece elemantary schools in İstanbul and consisted of total 394 elemantary school students. 204 of 394 students are boys and 190 are girls. In order to determine the level of attitudes of these students, a questionaire was prepared and applied. Data was then analyzed by using t-test analysis and variance tecniques and following results were obtained: The students who have good relationship with their teachers havehigh marks, have more positive attitude towards social studies. The students of teachers who use different methods and tecniques except following the text books, observation and field trips and lecturing have more positive attitude towards social studies.
