Abstract:

We have a lot of poets who lived during Ottoman Empire period and wrote poems in Turkish, Persian and even Arabic. Some of them with their poems praised the statesmen and the notables, by doing so they directly or indirectly submitted their wishes to their praised ones. When the praises of Turkish literature are investigated, it can be seen that they address the statesmen like sultan, grand vizier, pasha and the notables. However, sometimes the praises appeal to statesmen at different offices like qadı (judge), mofti and sheikhulislam. One of them is Sheikhulislam Faizollah Afandi. Faizollah Afandi is an effective statesman especially in state administra-tion, appointment of officers and suspension from offices besides his of-fice of being the sheikhulislam during the era of Mostafa II. In this work, nine poems which address Sheikhulislam Sayyed Faizollah Afandi by the poets with the pen names as Vāsılā, Qourānī, Āref, Hātef, Āzem, Dorrī, Vāsık, Nazmī and Sāmī are translated into Tur-kish by writing critique and explained shortly. Additionally, there are some information given shortly about the lives of Faizollah Afandi and the mentioned poets.
