Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate the attitudes of the students in the second stage of primary education to the mathematics course by gender, school type and grade level. The results of this research using a general screening model can be summarized as follows. Students' attitudes towards mathematics courses were found to be mostly attended in all dimensions according to statistical analysis results. According to the gender variable, it was concluded that the average attitude score of female students towards mathematics lesson was higher than male students. There was a significant difference in anxiety and working dimensions according to school type variable. In the anxiety dimension, it was seen that the average attitude scores of the secondary school students towards the mathematics course were higher than those of the İHO students. In the study dimension, it was found that the average attitude score of İHO students for mathematics courses was higher than that of secondary school students. Significant differences were found in the dimensions of interest, anxiety and necessity according to the grade level variable. The groups were compared to determine the groups with significant differences. It was seen that in the dimension of interest the differences between the 5th to 6th and 8th grade students was found to be significant in favor of 5th grade students. In terms of anxiety, the difference between 5th to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students was found to be significant in favor of 5th grade students. Also, in terms of necessity the difference between the 6th to 8th grade students was found to be significant in favor of 6th grade.
