Abstract:

The aim of this study is to contribute to the creation of designs that are suitable for the identity of the city, people's taste and perception levels, can be used by all societies (universal), that will make easier, the work of individuals to eliminate the visual pollution caused by environmental graphics, to improve the perspectives of private, public and local government authorities. to make it conscious. In the study, it is focused on the determination of the characteristics of the orientation and marking designs, which are considered in the information design within the scope of the environmental graphic. In this context, the currently used routing and marking designs in the cities of Ankara, Istanbul, Diyarbakır, Erzurum, Izmir, Samsun and Antalya, which have historical and cultural values from seven regions in Turkey, were examined graphically. In addition, evaluations were made in terms of their suitability for the urban identity, and the features that they should have were interpreted, and suggestions were made about how these designs should be. These existing routing designs used in these provinces, which constitute the sample of the study, were evaluated in line with the information obtained from the literature review and expert opinions, and it was seen that the designs in some provinces were insufficient in terms of graphic design and suitability for urban identity. In this context, it can be said that these designs were designed and positioned by ignoring the graphic design principles, elements and the effect on the urban identity. As a result of the qualified design of information graphics, which are an important element in urban communication, the visual integrity of the city will be ensured and the city will gain a new identity.
