Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’de üniversite öğrenimi gören uluslararası öğrencilerin okuma alışkanlıkları; seçilen okuma materyalinin türü, okuma yapılan konular, okuma için ayrılan süre gibi değişkenler açısından değerlendirilerek serbest okuma durumları hakkında fikir sahibi olmak amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma, nitel bir araştırmadır. Çalışmada elde edilen veriler görüşme yöntemi ile toplanmıştır. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2016-2017 eğitim-öğretim yılında Sakarya Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören dokuz yabancı uyruklu öğrenci ile aynı yıl İstanbul Üniversitesinde öğrenim gören on bir yabancı uyruklu öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma sonucunda, öğrencilerin serbest okuma için materyal seçme konusunda zorlandıkları, basılı materyal okumak yerine ekran okumayı tercih ettikleri, sınıf düzeyleri arttıkça serbest okumaya ayırdıkları sürenin azaldığı gibi bulgulara ulaşılmıştır.
In this study, the aim of international students in Turkey is to get an idea of the reading habits; the type of chosen reading material, the subjects to be read, the time dedicated to reading, and the free reading conditions. Study is a qualitative research. The data obtained in the study was collected through the method of interview. The research study group consists of nine foreign nationals studying at the University of Sakarya in the 2016-2017 educational year and eleven foreign nationals studying at the University of Istanbul in the same year. The study found that students had difficulty choosing material for free reading, preferred to read screen rather than printed material, and the time they spent on free reading increased by the class levels.
