Abstract:

The paper is to explain the great debates accepted as given in the discipline of international relations, the first four debates with the concept set of the fifth debate. It argues that great debates stem from the world brought to the fore by the Humean perspective, which adapts Newtonian mechanics to its own thought, uniformizing the discipline. For this reason, regardless of the structure that caused the first four debates, can the progress of the discipline be re-defined in terms of debates? The paper sought an answer to the question. To answer the question, the concept set of complexity and quantum theories compatible with critical realism has been used in the steps of explanatory research. At the paper, it was seen that the first four discussions could be explained with the concepts set in question and the possibility of approaching the literature from a different perspective with explanatory research steps. In addition, the use of concepts from different disciplines supported ontologically the unity of science.
