Abstract:

Physical space is not an empty space of symbolic meanings. In urban areas, the space is produced together with a lot of concrete and abstract factors. One of the definers in this production process is the ideology. The power interferes with the production processes of the space with various vehicles. The processes of social affiliation and identity building are actively used for the production or transformation of public spaces by policies that are consistent with the ideological structure. With this study, the activities in cultural centers actively used in the construction process were addressed within the framework of Althusser’s approach to the state’s ideological instruments. The active cultural centers in the central districts of Ankara are defined as a workplace. The research method of karma was preferred. In doing so, a structured conversation technique has been used to obtain the subjective assessments of participants benefiting from cultural centers. The qualitative data obtained from here are evaluated and interpreted using the methods of quantum analysis. In this context, the statistical significance of the results has been tested according to gender, age, education level, occupation and current status/reference categories. The study found that cultural centers were ideological-based places where the culture was rebuilt by political governments.
