Felsefenin, dinin nas ve hükümleriyle nasıl bir ilişkiye sahip olduğu meselesi, Müslümanların felsefi metinlerle karşılaşmasına kadar uzanır. İslâm filozoflarının kendilerini doğrudan içinde buldukları bu mesele hakkında fikri seyrin Doğu ve Batı İslâm dünyasında farlı olduğu rahatlıkla söylenebilir. Batı İslam dünyasındaki fikri gelişim, merkezi konumda bulunan Doğu İslâm dünyasından farklı olmasının sebebi olarak bu bölgenin merkezden uzak olması gösterilebilir. Nitekim birbirine uzak olan bu bölgelere felsefi ve hatta dini metinlerin ulaşması ve gösterdikleri tesir birbirlerinden farklıdır. Bu farklı seyirde siyasi olayların etkisini de göz ardı etmemek gerekir. Nitekim dönem dönem kişi ve eserlere yönelik yasaklamalar düşüncesinin belli bir doğrultuda ilerlemesini zorunlu kılmıştır. Biz din ile felsefe arasındaki ilişkiye dair Batı İslâm dünyasından (Endülüs) iki örneği, İbn Tufeyl ve İbn Rüşd’ün çözümlerini inceleyeceğiz. Bu iki düşünürü aynı noktada birleştiren, her ne kadar farklı şekilde tezahür etse de, her ikisinin de felsefeyi meşrulaştırma çabasında olmasıdır. İbn Tufeyl bunu, insani bir etkiye maruz kalmamış bir zihnin akli serüvenini prova ederek gerçekleştirir. O, bu suretle meramını dolaylı yoldan ve üstü kapalı olarak anlatmaya çalışır. İbn Rüşd ise din ile felsefe arasındaki ilişkiyi doğrudan, açık bir şekilde felsefenin dini değerlendirmeyle hükmünün ne olduğunu sorar ve bu soruya cevap arayarak yapar.
The question of how the philosophy, the religion, and its prescriptions are related, extends to the fact that Muslims encounter philosophical texts. The idea of this issue that the Islamic philosophers find themselves directly within can be easily said that it is different in the Eastern and Western Islamic world. The intellectual development in the western Islamic world can be shown to be far from the center because it is different from the eastern Islamic world located in the center. In fact, the reach of philosophical and even religious texts to these areas that are far from each other and the insights they show are different from each other. We do not need to ignore the influence of these political events. In fact, the period of prohibition against persons and works has made it compulsory for the thought to progress in a certain direction. We will study two examples of the Western Islamic world of the relationship between religion and philosophy, the solutions of Ibn Tufeyl and Ibn Rushd. The one that unites these two thinkers at the same point, though they manifest in different ways, is that they both are trying to legitimize the philosophy. Ibn Tufeyl accomplishes this by testing the mindfulness of a man who has not been exposed to a human influence. He tries to explain his merma in this way indirectly and closely. Ibn Rushd asks the relationship between religion and philosophy directly, clearly, with the religious assessment of philosophy, what the judgment is and asks for answers to this question.
