2022 yılının son çeyreğinde popülerliği artan yapay zekâ tabanlı görsel üretimlerin sanat eseri niteliğine sahip olup olamayacağı veya dijital sanat kapsamında değerlendirilip değerlendirilemeyeceği tartışmaları gündemde giderek daha çok yer almakta ve popülaritesini artırmaktadır. Yapay zekâ algoritmaları her ne kadar dijital çağın sanatsal bir içeriği olarak uzun yıllardır yeni medya çalışmalarında kullanılmaktadır. Ancak yapay zekânın giderek gelişen içeriğiyle ulaşılan son noktada, yazılım bilgisine sahip olmanın gerekliliği ortadan kalkmış, ilgili programlar herkesin rahatlıkla erişim sağlayıp kullanabileceği seviyeye gelmiştir. Metinden görüntü üreten yapay zekâ sistemleri, yapay zekânın temelini oluşturan makine öğrenme (machine learning, ML) teknolojileriyle birlikte çeşitli internet sitelerinden toplanan görsel ve yazınsal veri kümelerinden yararlanmakta ve kişinin yazacağı komut doğrultusunda daha önce ‘hiç var olmamış’ görseller oluşturabilmektedir. İstem olarak adlandırılan metin girdisi görüntü oluşumunda büyük rol oynamakta, yazılan her kelime farklı parametreleri değiştirerek yapay zekânın izleyeceği yolu belirlemektedir. Bu görsel çıktı, programa girilen her sözcük ile birlikte değişmekte ufak ayrıntılar bile sonuçta büyük farklılıklar oluşturabilmektedir. Geçmişte sanat eğitimi almamış veya hiçbir sanatsal faaliyette bulunmamış kişilerin yapay zekâya “eser” ürettirebilmesi, güncel sanatın ve sanatçının konumu ile alakalı soru işaretleri yaratmaktadır. Yapay zekâ-insan etkileşimi neticesinde, deneysel ve yinelemeli bir süreçten geçerek gerçekleştirilen üretimlerin sanatsal boyutlarına dair incelemelerin yapılması önemli görülmektedir. Bu araştırmada, nitel araştırma yöntemi/örnek olay incelemesiyle metinden görüntü üreten yapay zekâ sistemleri kullanılarak sanatsal bir çıktının elde edilebilirliği ve kimlerin, hangi süreçler doğrultusunda bu çıktıya ulaşabileceği sorularına cevap aranmıştır.
The debate over whether artificial intelligence (AI)-based visual productions can possess artistic value or be considered part of digital art is becoming increasingly popular and garnering more attention in the last quarter of 2022. While AI algorithms have been utilized in new media studies as a component of the artistic content of the digital age for many years, the necessity for software knowledge has been eliminated due to the increasingly sophisticated content of AI, and related programs have reached a level where anyone can easily access and use them. AI systems that generate images from text, along with machine learning (ML) technologies that form the foundation of AI, take advantage of visual and textual data sets collected from various websites and can create images that have 'never existed before' based on the command written by the user. The text input, referred to as a prompt, plays a significant role in image formation, and each word written determines the path that AI will follow by altering different parameters. This visual output changes with every word entered into the program, and even minor details can create significant differences in the final result. The ability of people without any art education or artistic background to create an 'artwork' using AI raises questions about the position of contemporary art and the artist. As a result of AI-human interaction, it is crucial to examine the artistic dimensions of productions that are achieved through an experimental and iterative process. This research aims to address the questions of whether an artistic output can be achieved using AI systems that generate images from text and who can attain this output through which processes, using a qualitative research method/example case study.
