Abstract:

This study aims to develop a scale to measure the self-evaluation of the music education department students regarding the harmony lesson. The main purpose of this research is to determine the knowledge level of the students through their self-evaluation and thus contribute to the field of harmony education. For this purpose, a scale named "Harmony Lesson Self-Assessment Scale" was developed. The samples of the research are collected from five (5) randomly and unbiasedly selected university’s Faculty of Education, Music Teaching Department of Fine Arts Education in the years of 2016-2017. Samples are selected from 3rd and 4th grade students who are selected from the ones who have taken the Harmony – Counterpoint – Accompaniment courses; adding up to two hundred thirty-three (233) students. Expert opinion was obtained for content validity. Cronbach α coefficient was applied for reliability. The coefficient value of the scale was found to be 0.945. Item-Total Correlation and Factor Analysis were applied for construct validity. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the 33-item "Harmony Lesson Self-Assessment Scale" could be used safely in measuring the self-assessment of students who studied in the music department and took harmony lessons.
